Jammu and Kashmiris astateinnorthernIndia, often denoted by theacronymJ&K. It is located mostly in the Himalayan mountains, and shares borders with the states ofHimachal PradeshandPunjabto the south. Jammu and Kashmir has an international border withChinain the north and east, and theLine of Controlseparates it from the Pakistani-administered territories ofAzad KashmirandGilgit-Baltistanin the west and northwest respectively. The state has special autonomy underArticle 370of theConstitution of India.

Jammu and Kashmir is the only state in India with a Muslim-majority population.The Kashmir valley is famous for its beautiful mountainous landscape, and Jammu's numerous shrines attract tens of thousands ofHindupilgrims every year. Ladakh, also known as "LittleTibet", is renowned for its remote mountain beauty andBuddhistculture.
