Champasakis a province in southwesternLaos, near the borders withThailandandCambodia.It's best known for a series of Khmer ruins, collectively named aUNESCO World Heritage Siteas theChampasak Cultural Landscape.

Champasak has played a central role in the history ofSiamand Laos, with frequent battles taking place in and around Champasak.Its rich cultural heritage includes ancient temple ruins and French colonial architecture. Champasak has some 20 wats (temples), such asWat Phou,Wat Luang, andWat Tham Fai.Freshwater dolphinsand the province's many waterfalls are tourist attractions.
